Brindle Reunions

at the Brindle Reunion, July 26, 1998

A reunion is a gathering of relatives and friends, and that is what we have here today. The Brindle Reunion started in the mid-Fifties, after a funeral occurred. At Baldy (Horace) Pilkenton's funeral, everyone was standing around. Some were chatting, and laughing, and a few of the Seniors decided we needed to have a reunion so we could catch up on all the news. So as I remember, the first Reunion was held at Uncle Vear's1 place at Silver Lake, close to Angola. We have been at Uncle Harry's2 in Peru a few times. He had a swimming pool. Later we visited Uncle Mike's at the cottage on Long Lake near Ionia, Michigan. We have also been to Bud and Mary's3 in Logansport. We enjoyed the park back of Mary's. They even had a Merry Go Round. One year there was a lot of Flooding. We enjoyed the gathering in Huntington Park and the mosquitoes feasted on us. One time we went to Marie's place just outside Huntington and later we went to Clarence and Marie's Farm. For several years Bob pushed gravel around and made a beach so the kids could go swimming. Later we went several times to Bob and Anne's4. We ate in the basement. I remember several older ladies came, sat around, and talked with everyone. There was Aunt Nina, a Mrs. Charles Sickafoos, Peg Thurber, and others. At a few of the reunions Fred Thomas (Lala's oldest boy) would take kids for a ride in his little sports car. We always had an abundant supply of good food.
